Federal
Defenders trains all new attorneys on federal criminal
law, the practical aspects of trial advocacy, practice
in magistrate and
district court, as well as appellate advocacy. Training for
new attorneys occurs during an intensive, ten-weekend program
in the Fall. New attorneys are also sent to national and
regional federal defender training seminars, the National
Criminal Defense College in
Macon, Georgia, and the Institute for Criminal Defense Advocacy

Training Schedule
All Attorney Education
All staff attorneys
participate in regular Saturday training sessions in the Spring on topics ranging from advanced
trial advocacy to the intricacies of federal evidentiary and criminal procedural issues.
Before trial, each case is brainstormed with all staff attorneys
and investigators. Additionally, each attorney participates
in a mock oral argument prior to arguing any case
