Frank Mangan's rich history with Federal Defenders extends over three decades.
He first came to the office as a trial attorney fresh out of law school. Frank
dove into the work, zealously representing clients charged with a variety of
federal felony offenses. In 1976, he left Federal Defenders to manage the San
Jose branch office of the Federal Public Defender of the Northern District of
California. Frank opened his own criminal defense practice in 1978, where he
defended many high profile clients in both federal and state courts.
Frank returned to Federal Defenders in 1995 as a Senior Trial Attorney. He
continued to try many serious federal felony offenses as well as serve the
office by overseeing the training of our new attorneys. Frank leads the
office's "New Attorney Training Committee" which is charged with
ensuring our younger attorneys become superior litigators with a profound
knowledge of federal criminal law. He is committed to ensuring that each
generation of Federal Defenders provides quality representation to our clients.
Frank served the office as Chief Trial Attorney from 2002-05. Recently, he
assumed the position of Senior Litigator/Special Assistant to the Executive
Director. He also finds time to remain actively involved in supervising and
training our younger trial attorneys.
